A Total Disruption

By Ted Hope

“How is the film industry going to learn to support the artists who are willing to take risks, are committed to their own audience and advancing the language of cinema?

But now, through technology, we can change that equation. Barriers to entry have dropped. Barriers to distribution have dropped. Because I definitely believe that there are titles that have value that draw people (to them). What Hollywood and the film industry have never done well is match people to titles that they will respond to.

The film industry have never empowered the artist in that equation or said “You have to think through the life cycle of your film, how you keep it relevant in this day and age.” As we start to get hip to that, we see that we are free from the mass market dictates.

We don’t have to make our work for everybody. We can go into the niche audiences — but on a grand scale. We can unite people around their common values. And we can reward them for the activity they care most about.

It’s a double anchor because the audience has to say “this IS the culture that I want and I am voting for it with my dollars. I expect you to deliver something that is more than a product. I expect you to deliver an experience to me.”

And that’s where I see our business going: we stop making products and we deliver relationships and experiences.

Yes, yes, yes. I know I posted this video once before. But now it is with the full transcript!

I’m impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both educative and interesting, and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is an issue that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy I found this during my hunt for something concerning this.

Hi everyone! I know it is a big problem when we do not know what to watch. Of course, we want to find film which will be corresponding to our interests. Good quality is also elating us. So, I want to share with some useful resource, it constantly helps me http://putlockers.video/. Here you can see at the main page the list of recent films with their appreciation, I think it is comfortably. What can you say about this site?

  21. Teresa / Jun 26 at 8:15am

I enjoy your style and attitude! With so many sites offering “free” movies on the internet, it has made me stop and think. As someone who has always paid her way, I have felt disappointed by so many films recently, and all of them come at the same high price, I think the system needs to change. If we, as an audience can somehow regain a bit of power over our entertainment – if we think a movie is wonderful, we pay a reasonable amount, if we think it is an offensive waste of time, we don’t pay. This might start to diminish the number of low quality films and encourage those that engage, uplift and encourage the values you speak about. I know it’s an immense industry, but we have to start somewhere.

    Hello ,

Thank you so much for this website. I have a question. I am an actress and producer and find myself working on other peoples projects. I love doing this as I learn so much and I have the good fortune to work with people who are further along in the industry than me. In response to the video. I hear what you are saying.. go to your audience, your “target market”, if you will, to showcase your work to get the word out about the particular indie project. My question is this- what strategies do you all use to get- articles written about your projects, connect with social media bloggers, vloggers.. etc.. I am currently sifting through the internet to find media outlets to write about the project and in the meanwhile have developed, what I consider to be “catchy” copy to email to these different outlets.

Does anyone have a quantifiable rate of success in getting interviewed and written about?

    Thanks!!

Great approach and philosophy Ted! Been a fan for a while. I’m excited that a producer / exec understands this shift and new horizon for artists and filmmakers. Blessings!

This site could not have been built without the help and insight of Michael Morgenstern. My thanks go out to him.

Help save indie film and give this guy a job in web design or film!
